The Reel
The Shimano Calcutta has been a longstanding workhorse in Shimano’s
stable of quality reels. The Shimano Calcutta CT 400 B
Overhead Reel features an anodised body and spool to stand
the pressures of regular saltwater use. This reel also has a
multi-disc carbon drag which dissipates heat in the drag evenly and
exerts very high drag pressures. It also features a larger style
handle with rubberised grips, Super Stopper, Assist Stopper and
runs smoothly on Shimano’s A-RB Bearings plus one roller
bearing.

The Rod
The team at Shimano Fishing NZ have developed a dynamic and
versatile series of rods that has been designed to handle the
toughest fishing conditions. The Shimano Vortex Overhead
Boat Rod features a Power-Carbon blank specially designed
to take the knocks, an integrated glass tip so as to retain
sensitivity from the bite to the fight and also enhance overall
performance without compromise. These features allow you to take
full advantage of the more traditional bait fishing techniques.
This rod is ideal for straylining with overhead reels and deploying
baits in to the benthos for Hapuka and the like.
